Tanzania Safari Guide

Where to visit;-

Northern Circuit which includes Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti offers unforgettable safari experience. Kilimanjaro also offers the best hiking adventure for those looking for challenging activity.

Lastly, Zanzibar is an excellent place to unwind after safari or hike.

When to visit;-

Wildlife viewing is excellent all year round. However, if you wish to travel affordably with fewer tourists in parks, April, May and November are great months. July through to end of October is a busy season because of summer break. Nonetheless, whichever month you wish to travel, you can be sure of meeting the habitats of these parks.

Weather;- Tanzania offers one of the best climates for wildlife safaris. It is characterized by;-

  • Dry months: June – October
  • Long Rains: March, April and May
  • Short rains: November – February

Vaccinations;-

Yellow Fever vaccination is a must while Malaria vaccinations can be done for preventive measures.

Safety and Security;-

Tanzania is probably the safest country in East and Central Africa. However, most incidences of small thefts are unavoidable therefore organized tours around the cities are recommended rather than wander alone.

Find a hotel which is well secured before and after your safari. Inside the parks are safe because the government has stepped up security for the safety of the tourists and people working in and around the parks as well as communities living near them.

Visa

Although you can get visa from Tanzania embassy in your own country, it can also be easily be acquired upon arrival at the airport or at the border of Kenya and Tanzania if you are coming in from Kenyan side. The rate is between $50 -$100 per person as it keeps changing.

Currency and Money

Tanzania use shillings are their currency. However, US dollars, sterling pound and Euros are also acceptable. There are bureaus in Arusha city that one can change foreign to shillings. Credit cards like Visa and Mastercards are currently acceptable in most hotels.

Note: Carry notes that are recent as from 2006 onwards!

Dressing

Tanzania is more conservation and a more comfortable and decent dressing is advisable. Khaki materials of dull colours are recommended for safari.

Bring a hat to protect face from the sun or sun screen. Sandals or closed sport-like shoes would work. Generally, bring both light and warm clothes, but pack lightly!
